GRAND COUNTY, Utah (TCD) -- A newlywed couple was found dead at a campsite in Moab after being reported missing last week, which prompted local officials to call on the FBI and the State Bureau of Investigation to assist in the search for answers.
The Grand County Sheriff's Office announced August 18 that the bodies of two females were found in the South Mesa area of the La Sal Loop Road. One day later, the Sheriff's Office identified the victims as 38-year-old Crystal Michelle Turner and 24-year-old Kylen Carrol Schulte.
According to the Grand County Sheriff's Office August 19 statement, a preliminary examination by the Medical Examiner's Office reportedly determined the two women died from gunshot wounds.
Grand County Sheriff Steven White told KUTV-TV investigators reportedly believe the perpetrator was "an outside party" because they haven't found any firearms in the area. The Grand County Sheriff's Office said in their statement they believe there is "no current danger to the public."
According to KUTV, Schulte and Turner reportedly texted one of Schulte's aunts and allegedly said there was a "creepy guy at their campsite."
NBC News reports Schulte and Turner got married in April and they lived in their van, which they used also for traveling and camping.
The FBI and SBI's addition to the investigation was announced Monday. KSTU-TV reports White said, "Just know that everything is being done that we can possibly do, that is why we have asked for the additional resources. We want to make sure we do it thorough, we do it complete and we do it right."
