ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. (TCD) -- A 32-year-old man is accused of attempting to kill his roommate while wearing a cat costume.
According to a news release from the Alachua County Sheriff's Office, deputies forced entry into a home after a male victim called 911 to report that his roommate, Omar Gutierrez, stabbed him in the neck. Deputies located Gutierrez at the scene, and he was booked into the Alachua County Jail for a count of first-degree attempted murder.
Upon their arrival, deputies noticed blood pouring from the victim's neck, and he was transported to the hospital for treatment, WCJB-TV reports.
An arrest report obtained by WCJB said Gutierrez told his roommate he stabbed him because "it was instinctual."
Gutierrez reportedly accused his roommate of hurting his cat, which the victim says is not true.
The Sheriff's Office said they "exchanged Gutierrez's cat costume for a green and white striped jumpsuit." He remains held on $1 million bond.
The Sheriff's Office posted body camera footage "showing the courageous actions" of two deputies at the scene.
