PUEBLO, Colo. (TCD) -- A 23-year-old mother was arrested and charged after her 2-year-old child died from suspected abuse last week.
According to a news release from the Pueblo Police Department, officers responded to a report of an unresponsive 2-year-old victim at a hospital on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at around 4 p.m. Several hours later, at approximately 10 p.m., the child reportedly died.
Upon further investigation, police said they discovered the child lived with its mother, Mythia Latka, on the 2200 block of E. 12th Street. Police executed a search warrant at Latka’s home and gathered evidence for the investigation.
As a result, police said Latka was arrested and booked into the Pueblo County Detention Center for child abuse causing death.
Records show that Latka also faces a charge for fugitive of justice. Her bond was reportedly set at just over $100,000.
The Pueblo Police Department said this is their first homicide investigation of the year, and they have asked anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward.
