MORRISTOWN, Minn. (TCD) -- A 32-year-old man was arrested after allegedly fatally shooting his roommate.
According to the Star Tribune, Cody Kolstad called emergency dispatch on Tuesday, May 31, at approximately 12:40 a.m. and admitted to shooting Brian Stoeckel, saying, "Just come look. He's dead."
Kolstad reportedly added, "Please put the cuffs on me."
Authorities responded to the 100 block of Second Street Southeast, where they found Kolstad lying face-down in the grass with a phone in his hand, WCCO-TV reports.
According to the complaint obtained by the Star Tribune, when questioned by deputies, "Kolstad described that another person had told him either he or Brian needed to die by midnight."
Stoeckel was found in a bed within the home not breathing, and he had suffered a gunshot wound to the neck, WCCO reports.
Kolstad allegedly told investigators he took a considerable amount of drugs, and he wanted deputies to shoot him in the head and burn him. Authorities reportedly asked Kolstad why he believed he should die, and Kolstad responded, “because I took a life.”
Kolstad was booked into Rice County Jail and charged with one count of second-degree murder, records show. Kolstad faces a 40-year prison sentence if convicted of the second-degree murder charge.
