DALLAS (KDAF) -- A Dallas woman faces charges after police found her 6-year-old grandson tied up in a shed.
Police found the child behind the home on Coston Drive around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday night, KTVT reports.
Police had received a tip about the child's grandmother, 53-year-old Esmeralda Lira. She told officers the child was with his mother. A man living in the back of the property led police to a shed. The boy was found by officers with his hands tied behind his back.
His grandmother said he was only in there one time as punishment. But her boyfriend, Jose Balderas, 64, said for at least two weeks, confinement in the shed was the child's punishment since he was stealing food, KTVT reports.
The child alleged the abuse started when he was out of school “for this corona thing,” telling officers he has been forced to sleep in the shed.
