WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (TCD) -- A 24-year-old man was arrested after the remains of his missing 37-year-old alleged girlfriend were discovered in a forest.
According to a news release from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, Tara Deaton’s gray Lexus coupe was involved in a hit-and-run crash on County Highway 30A. Her vehicle was reportedly found on May 24 in a wooded area, and she was reported missing out of Kentucky two weeks after the crash.
The car was brought into the Walton County Sheriff’s Office and a search was conducted, revealing blood in the trunk.
The Sheriff’s Office said authorities tried to find Deaton and interviewed her friends and family. Upon further investigation, authorities reportedly came to the conclusion that Dagan Boring, Deaton’s alleged boyfriend, had something to do with her disappearance.
On July 14, investigators located Boring in a convenience store in Fort Walton Beach, and later authorities found Deaton’s body inside Point Washington State Forest, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Boring was reportedly arrested and booked into the Walton County Jail for homicide. He remains held without bond.
In a statement, Walton County Sheriff Michael Adkinson said, "This is not the ending we hoped for, but, with a successful prosecution we hope to bring some closure to Tara’s loved ones."
