Tampa man arrested for allegedly kidnapping DoorDash driver at gunpoint, sexually battering her

TAMPA, Fla. (TCD) – After a days-long manhunt, police arrested a 38-year-old man who they allege kidnapped a DoorDash driver at gunpoint, sexually battered her, and shot at one someone trying to save her.
According to the Tampa Police Department, on April 18 at approximately 11 p.m., a woman tried to make a DoorDash delivery to the Residence Inn on West Boy Scout Boulevard when a man armed with a gun "forced her back into her car." Police identified the victim as a Hispanic woman in her early 20s.
The victim, who remained unnamed, reportedly had her AirPods in her ears and was on the phone with her girlfriend when the man approached her. The victim’s family called police, and officers went to the Residence Inn to investigate.
Tampa Police said the suspect made the victim drive to Belara Lakes Apartments, and when they got there, he allegedly sexually battered her. The victim’s family arrived at the apartment complex and "rescued her from the car." The suspect allegedly shot at the family and hit one of the girlfriend’s relatives, a woman in her 20s.
Both women went to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
On April 22, Tampa Police identified the suspect as Joseph Killins and announced officers arrested him in connection with the alleged attack as well as an April 19 robbery.
According to Tampa Police, on April 19, Killins allegedly threw a Hispanic woman in her 40s to the ground, punched her, and stole her backpack at the Belara Lakes Apartments complex. Witnesses reportedly saw him running toward Haven Waters Edge Apartments. Police arrested Killins at the Tampa Inn.
Tampa Police said they recovered evidence relating to the alleged kidnapping and he "disclosed details that were specific to the crimes that occurred on April 18."
He was taken into custody on charges of armed kidnapping, robbery with a firearm, armed sexual battery, sexual battery, and aggravated battery with a weapon in connection with the DoorDash driver incident. He was also charged with robbery for the events on April 19.
Hillsborough County Jail records show he’s being held without bond.
