WILMINGTON, N.C. (TCD) -- A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of killing a missing woman who was last seen over the weekend.
KC Johnson was last seen on Friday, Jan. 13, on the 1300 block of Tradd Court in Wilmington, and was reported missing the next day. On Jan. 18, the Wilmington Police Department announced they determined Johnson was killed the same day she went missing on the 1300 block of King Street. They did not reveal a cause of death or any indication as to how she died.
Officials in South Carolina arrested William Haven Hicks on charges of first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and kidnapping. He is being held in the Horry County Jail without bail as a fugitive from justice.
According to Wilmington Police, Hicks and Johnson reportedly met on social media prior to her death, but did not elaborate.
WECT-TV reports Johnson’s partner, Bulla Brodzinski, saw her on the Jan. 13 when Johnson said she would be back in an hour. Johnson is reportedly a transgender woman.
Brodzinski told WECT, "I wish I would’ve stopped her from going out that door because she would still be here today."
Hicks reportedly waived extradition and will be transferred to North Carolina.
