NEWBERRY, S.C. (TCD) -- A 35-year-old woman who worked for an after-school program was recently arrested after allegedly grabbing a child’s face and pushing him.
According to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, an investigation into the allegations against Lauren Folk was launched in mid-February. Folk was reportedly employed by the Boys and Girls Club after-school program at Reuben Elementary. On April 10, she allegedly grabbed a 4-year-old child’s face and pushed him backward.
On April 11, records show Folk was arrested and charged with assault and third-degree assault and battery. She was reportedly released from the Newberry County Detention Center on $500 bond the same day.
According to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, the case will be prosecuted by the 8th Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
In a statement to WHNS-TV, the School District of Newberry County said, "The School District of Newberry County has a partnership with Boys and Girls Club to provide after school care at several school locations. The Boys and Girls Club employs their own individuals for the after school care."
The Boys and Girls Club of the Midlands was reportedly made aware of the allegations against Folk, and she was eventually terminated on Feb. 24.
