HAMILTON, Ohio (TCD) -- A panel of three judges convicted a 42-year-old man of murder and later sentenced him to death for killing his wife, her parents, and her aunt in 2019 by shooting each of them in head so he could be with his mistress.
Butler County Common Pleas Court records show Gurpreet Singh was convicted Friday, May 10, of four counts of aggravated murder in connection with the deaths of his 39-year-old wife, Shalinderjit Kaur, her parents, 59-year-old Hakikat Singh Pannag and 62-year-old Parmjit Kaur, and his wife’s aunt, 58-year-old Amarjit Kaur. WXIX-TV reports each count of murder also included a specification of having a firearm and committing the crime as part of a course of conduct.
On Tuesday, May 14, the judges handed Singh four death sentences.
Singh previously stood trial in October 2022, but the jury could not reach a verdict, which resulted in a mistrial.
According to WKRC-TV, Butler County Assistant Prosecutor Josh Muennich argued Singh "started with the person he liked the least," then "worked his way methodically, from family member to family member to family member, shooting them repeatedly in the head."
Singh reportedly had a girlfriend in Indianapolis and was having financial difficulty supporting his children. He initially claimed he was not at home when the four victims were killed but then later walked back his story and said he was present during the shooting but did not do it.
Amarjit Kaur’s son Jasdeep Singh told WKRC, "He never showed any emotions, even when he did this much heinous crime. He’s a hardcore criminal."
Her other son, Garry Hans, said, "He deserves hell because he murdered four members of my family. He deserves the death penalty."
