Houston ambulance carjacked at gunpoint with patient, EMT in back

Police recovered a Houston Fire Dept. ambulance that was stolen at gunpoint early Friday morning.
Houston Fire personnel were transporting a patient to a hospital in an ambulance at about 3 a.m. Friday when a car ran the ambulance off the road at Southwest Freeway and Weslayan Street.
The suspect forced the driver out of the ambulance at gunpoint and left them on the side of the road.
The suspect then got it and drove the ambulance away, with the patient and a second firefighter in the back, Houston Police said.

The unidentified suspect drove onto a freeway heading toward downtown, the Houston Chronicle reports.
The ambulance was tracked via GPS. Within the hour, the suspect, who was armed, was taken into custody without incident, police said.
The patient was then taken to a hospital in another ambulance, the Chronicle reports.
The man opened fire on passing vehicles along the freeway, police said, but no one was hit, KTRK-TV reports.
The suspect had threatened the paramedic attending to the patient in the back with the gun, KTRK reports. The paramedic then contacted dispatchers.
