BEL AIR, Md. (TCD) -- A homicide investigation is underway after a missing 37-year-old woman was found dead on a popular hiking trail over the weekend.
According to a press conference held by Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler, Rachel Morin left her home on Saturday, Aug. 5, at approximately 6 p.m. to hike the Ma & Pa Trail in Bel Air. Her family became concerned when she didn’t return, and her boyfriend reported her missing at around 11:20 p.m.
During an initial search of the area, Gahler said deputies located Morin’s vehicle parked near the trail. The vehicle has since been towed and will be processed for evidence.
The Sheriff’s Office posted a missing person alert on social media, which was shared over 2,000 times.
On Sunday, Aug. 6, shortly after 1 p.m., a citizen reportedly called 911 to report a deceased female body off the trail. Gahler said investigators "firmly believe" this is the body of Morin, but the medical examiner will ultimately confirm the victim’s identity.
Investigators believe Morin was killed sometime while she was on the trail on Aug. 5 between 6 p.m. and when she was found.
The Sheriff’s Office has not identified any suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.
