ST. CLOUD, Minn. (TCD) -- A woman pleaded guilty last week to killing her 3-month-old child by stabbing him to death and leaving him in a trash can.
KMSP-TV reports Fardoussa Abdillahi entered the plea for second-degree murder Aug. 2. Abdillahi faces a maximum of 30 years in prison.
On Nov. 28, 2021, St. Cloud Police Department officers were called to the 2900 block of Maine Prairie Road to conduct a welfare check, and when they arrived, they found a deceased 3-year-old. Officers subsequently arrested Abdillahi on a charge of second-degree murder, but court records show it was amended to the higher charge of first-degree murder.
According to the criminal complaint, on the day of the welfare check, an adult male called 911 and reported "a baby was missing and the mother was stating that she had thrown the baby in the dumpster."
Witnesses said Abdillahi was crying and talking about leaving her child in the dumpster, so they searched for the child but could not find him. The male who called police and other witnesses became "unsure at the time if the defendant was being truthful," so they contacted police.
Police went into Abdillahi’s home and saw evidence that a child lived there but could not locate the 3-month-old. When they asked Abdillahi where he was, she said her son was "in the dumpster behind the building."
Abdillahi admitted she stabbed her son to death and wrapped his body in a garbage bag. Officers eventually found the child and arrested her.
The criminal complaint says Abdillahi "experienced headaches and feelings of worry and fear" following her son’s birth, which was escalated by the fact that the child’s father "was denying the child was his."
Abdillahi slit her son’s throat and put him in the trash bag with some of his baby clothes. Five minutes later, she left him in the dumpster. She reportedly called her mother following the incident and confessed to killing him.
An autopsy report showed the infant died from sharp force injuries to his neck.
