LAKE COUNTY, Fla. (TCD) -- A 35-year-old woman faces child abuse charges after she allegedly put the boy she was babysitting into a clothes dryer.
According to a heavily redacted probable cause affidavit, on Feb. 1, 2022, Amber Christine Chapman was babysitting the boy at a home in Lake County while his parents were at work. The affidavit says the boy was "frequently left" in Chapman’s care.
The boy reportedly went to the University of Florida Health Leesburg Hospital on Feb. 1 and told medical staff there that Chapman "put him in the dryer with towels and he spun around."
The affidavit says medical officials "observed soft tissue swelling of the occipital area, grape sized bilaterally as well as minor bruising to both ears, a large bruise to the right scapula about five centimeters in diameter and a seven centimeter bruise to the right perispinal lumbar area."
On Feb. 7, the boy spoke with law enforcement officials at his home and allegedly said Chapman "placed him in a dryer, closed the door and he 'went round and round.'"
Chapman allegedly opened the door, then closed it again, causing the boy to go "round and round" another time.
Lake County Jail records show Chapman was booked on a charge of aggravated child abuse.
