PIMA COUNTY, Ariz. (TCD) -- An 83-year-old Green Valley man was taken into custody this week after his missing wife’s body was found in a canyon.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department announced in a statement that they arrested Ronald Carpenter and booked him for first-degree murder.
On August 30, 82-year-old Mollie Snyder was reported missing from her home near the 400 block of North Calle El Diablo in Green Valley, according to the statement. Deputies began investigating her disappearance "immediately."
Pima County’s Search & Rescue Unit joined the effort after her car was found in Box Canyon, but she was not in the vehicle. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said extreme weather on Wednesday forced investigators to temporarily suspend the search until weather improved.
The Search & Rescue Unit resumed its work September 1 and found Snyder’s body at 9:30 a.m. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said she had "obvious signs of trauma." She was declared dead on the scene.
According to inmate records at the Pima County Adult Detention Center, Carpenter's bond was set at $750,000.
