Ga. man convicted of killing his deputy wife to allegedly hide that he fathered other children

NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. (TCD) -- A jury convicted a man last week of killing his wife, a Fulton County Sheriff’s deputy, and her brother because the truth about his alleged infidelity was about to come out.
The Newton County District Attorney’s Office announced that a jury found Jaquavia Jackson guilty July 28 of two counts each of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during a felony in connection with the 2021 deaths of Shakeema Jackson and her brother, Levoy Brown.
On Oct. 21, 2021, shortly after 10:20 p.m., the Newton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Windcrest Drive and found the victims dead from gunshot wounds. According to the District Attorney’s Office, officials made contact with Jaquavia Jackson at the scene, and he told authorities that "two unknown men entered the house and killed his wife and her brother."
Investigators learned Jackson and his wife were subpoenaed to appear in court the next day regarding a paternity test. Two women believed Jackson had fathered their children, and Jackson allegedly had another individual complete the DNA tests pretending to be him. Prosecutors said the court date would have addressed the fake DNA tests, and Jackson’s wife would have learned the "truth and extent of his lying and cheating."
According to the District Attorney’s Office, investigators also reviewed surveillance footage from a neighbor and observed that no one entered or exited the Windcrest Drive home. Jackson reportedly called a neighbor on the morning of the fatal shooting and asked if his security camera system was functioning, and he said it was not.
The District Attorney’s Office said Jackson "fired a staged shot" in the home to make it seem like he shot at intruders.
During the trial, prosecutors presented cellphone and phone log evidence to the jury, which did not corroborate Jackson’s claims about the intruders.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, investigators determined that Jackson shot his wife multiple times while she was wrapped in a blanket on the couch scrolling through Facebook in what District Attorney Randy McGinley called a "horrific, premeditated incident."
Jackson remains in custody, and his sentencing will be scheduled for a later date. Additionally, the court has ordered a presentence investigation.
Shakeema Jackson leaves behind a young child and had been working as a deputy for approximately one month before her death, WSB-TV reports.
