La. woman allegedly spent $12,000 on DoorDash using her 73-year-old aunt’s debit card

HAMMOND, La. (TCD) -- A 31-year-old woman is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from her 73-year-old aunt to purchase food and merchandise.
According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, Maili Morris was arrested Feb. 16 after her aunt "discovered her bank account was overdrawn by several hundred dollars," and she saw the charges were for "DoorDash."
Morris reportedly used her aunt’s debit card to make 136 orders from multiple stores, including Big Lots, PetSmart, Walgreens, CVS, Dollar General, and fast-food restaurants.
In total, Morris allegedly ordered $12,000 worth of food and merchandise between November 2022 and January 2023.
Morris was reportedly arrested and booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on 136 counts each of identity theft, bank fraud, computer fraud, felony theft, access device fraud, and exploitation of the infirmed.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Morris’ bond was set at just over $18 million.
Chief Jimmy Travis said, "Any crimes against the elderly citizens of our parish will not be tolerated, and offenders will be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible."
