PHOENIX (TCD) -- A homicide investigation is underway after human remains were reportedly discovered inside a suitcase in a desert area.
According to KTVK-TV, on Saturday, Sept. 17, at approximately 6:45 a.m., a female cyclist was riding her bike near Ashler Hills Drive and 40th Street when she found the body inside a suitcase. The woman reportedly called authorities, and Phoenix Police Department officers arrived on the scene.
The woman said she noticed a head sticking out of the suitcase, and it was covered in what appeared to be blood, KSAZ-TV reports. The luggage was allegedly 100 yards off the main road on a public trail.
The body was later identified as 39-year-old Jennifer Beede, KNXV-TV reports.
The trail where her body was found is reportedly a high-traffic area, and neighbors say Beede's body could not have been there for very long.
The case has been taken over by homicide detectives. The investigation remains ongoing, and police have asked anyone with information regarding Beede to come forward.
