19-year-old in custody after juvenile found dead in Mississippi

TUPELO, Miss. (TCD) -- Police have arrested a 19-year-old man on suspicion of kidnapping a 16-year-old girl who was found dead this week.
According to a news release from the Tupelo Police Department, on Tuesday, May 23, at approximately 3:30 a.m., officers performed a welfare check in the 100 block of Stone Street, where they found a juvenile female deceased.
The Lee County Coroner’s Office later identified the deceased girl as 16-year-old Denasia McGregory from Houston, Mississippi, WTVA-TV reports. Officials did not disclose her cause of death.
Police reportedly identified Labrandon Tumblin as a person of interest, and he was located at the scene and taken into custody at around 7 a.m. the same day. Tumblin was booked into the Lee County Detention Center on a charge of felony kidnapping.
Family members of the victim told WTVA that McGregory and Tumblin were dating.
The investigation is ongoing.
