ORLANDO (TCD) -- A 19-year-old is accused of fatally gunning down three people and injuring two others in two separate incidents, including a journalist who was at the scene reporting on the first shooting.
According to Orange County Sheriff John Mina, on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at approximately 11 a.m., deputies responded to the 6100 block of Hialeah Street regarding a shooting and found a female deceased. The Sheriff’s Office identified her as 38-year-old Nathacha Augustin. Homicide detectives went to the scene and "collected good evidence" about the suspect, Keith Melvin Moses.
Then, at 4:05 p.m., deputies received another 911 call about a shooting in the same area on Hialeah Street. Officials arrived at the scene and found two males shot in a vehicle. One was a journalist for Spectrum News 13, and the other was a photographer.
Mina said they were in the area reporting on the shooting from earlier that day.
The reporter, 24-year-old Dylan Lyons, died from his wounds, and the photographer, Jesse Walden, was hospitalized in critical condition.
Following the second shooting on Hialeah Street, Moses reportedly went to a nearby house on Harrington Street and shot two others, including a 9-year-old girl and her mother. The 9-year-old, T’yonna Major, died. Her mother is also in critical condition.
Mina said detectives located and arrested Moses. As of Wednesday night, he was being formally charged with murder in connection with Augustin’s slaying, but Mina expects additional charges related to the other four shootings.
Moses is being held in the Orange County Jail without bond.
According to Mina, Augustin was an "acquaintance" of Moses, but he doesn’t know of any link between Moses and the journalists or Moses and Major and her mother.
Moses has a rap sheet that includes gun charges, burglary, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
In a tribute to Lyons, News 13 described him as a hardworking journalist who "loved the community, telling the stories of people, reporting on the news, and he was just passionate about what he did."
Walden, the photographer, wrote on Facebook Thursday, "I lost one of my best friends, Dylan yesterday. I was shot and now I’ve had surgery and I am OK thank you all so much for your well wishes. I haven’t had my phone till now, so I’m sorry I haven’t been able to respond to most of you. I’m very lucky to be alive."
