COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (TCD) -- A woman who was released on parole two years ago for killing a tow truck driver was rearrested recently for reportedly assaulting her boyfriend with a broom.
According to KKTV-TV, on the evening of Nov. 5, Colorado Springs Police Department officers received a call about a disturbance involving Detra Farries. When they arrived at a residence, Farries' boyfriend, who was not identified, told police he was looking at his phone while watching football and Farries approached him. She allegedly started arguing with him and accused him of checking out other women on his phone.
She allegedly demanded to see his cellphone, and when he said no, she reportedly spit in his face.
Arrest papers cited by KKTV allege Farries hit her boyfriend "multiple times with both of her hands which caused him pain."
After that, she allegedly picked up a nearby broom and "jabbed" him several times in the stomach.
El Paso County Jail records show Farries was booked on a parole hold, but she also reportedly faces charges of assault and harassment.
According to the Colorado Gazette, Farries was convicted in 2012 of manslaughter and vehicular homicide in connection with the death of Allen Rose. In 2011, Rose was in the middle of towing Farries' car when he got caught in some cables. She drove away and ended up dragging him for more than a mile.
During the trial, Farries' attorneys reportedly argued that she did not know Rose was behind her nor did she know there was a cable on her car.
She was described as having caused Rose a "torturous, cruel and painful death."
A judge sentenced her to 20 years in prison, but she was released on parole in 2021, KKTV reports. Rose, an Army veteran and father, was 35 years old.
