Texas sex offender allegedly beat girlfriend with brick, stuffed her in car trunk

GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas (TCD) -- A registered sex offender has been sentenced to two decades in prison for allegedly beating his girlfriend and stuffing her inside the trunk of a car.
According to a press release from the Galveston County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, Frederick Lee Averette had a prior romantic relationship with the victim. On Feb. 9, 2020, he reportedly went to her home and hit her with a brick repeatedly, knocking her to the ground. The District Attorney’s Office says Averette continued to hit her as she was on the ground, and then he dragged her to a car trunk.
A witness reportedly saw Averette dragging her and alerted the La Marque Police Department, and officers quickly responded to the scene. According to the District Attorney’s Office, upon their arrival, officers found Averette hiding in the floorboard and discovered the victim in the trunk.
The female victim reportedly suffered multiple fractures and lost several teeth, but she survived the attack, the District Attorney’s Office says.
According to KPRC-TV, during his arrest, Averette resisted and assaulted one of the officers. Averette reportedly pleaded guilty to aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury in a family violence relationship, and assault of a public servant. On Feb. 18, the District Attorney’s Office announced his sentence of 20 years in prison.
In a statement, Galveston County Chief Assistant District Attorney Dulce Salazar said, "This sentence sends a strong message that family and dating violence will not be tolerated in Galveston County and for the next twenty years, Galveston will be a safer place because Frederick Averette is off the streets."
According to the District Attorney’s Office, Averette was a transient registered sex offender who had been previously sentenced to prison for assault family violence strangulation and sexual assault of a child.
