CHICAGO -- (WGN) -- Cook County prosecutors want two men wrongly convicted of a murder in 1993 to be set free.
Jose Montanez, 49, and Armando Serrano, 44, had been sentenced to 45-years in prison for the murder of Rodrigo Vargas in his van in the city's Humboldt Park neighborhood.
Both men have always maintained their innocence, but they were convicted based on testimony that legal activists have since revealed was coerced and fabricated.
Today, after 23-years in prison, prosecutors will ask a judge to vacate the convictions and dismiss all charges.
