Couple facing child abuse charges after being accused of driving drunk with 4-year-old in truck

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- (WZTV) -- A man and woman are facing child abuse and neglect charges after Clarksville police said they were both drunk and driving around with a 4-year-old child inside.

Jonathan and Patricia Matthews are charged with child abuse and neglect. Jonathan is also charged with DUI.

Police responded to the area [of] Cumberland Drive and Liberty Park about a man driving a pickup truck with pontoon boat attached who might be intoxicated. There was a woman and child reportedly in the truck.

An officer followed the truck and saw the vehicle didn't stay in its lane and completely went off the right shoulder of the road at one point.Jonathan Matthews failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody. Police said Patricia Matthews was also intoxicated and unable to drive or care for the child.
