LEXINGTON, N.C. -- (WLOS) -- A North Carolina dog, left at a Davidson County veterinary office as a stray with a chain collar embedded into his neck, is recovering after having a chain surgically removed.
Figaro is a 1-year-old hound mix. Staffers at the Davidson County Animal Alliance say the chain had likely had been around the dog's neck since he was a puppy.
The Alliance say, after having the chain surgically removed, Figaro is now being treated for an infection caused by the embedded chain.
Officials say there is significant tissue damage and infection but luckily it doesn't look like he will have any permanent long term damage. Once the infection is clear, Figaro will have another surgery before being released to a foster home.Donations can be mailed to PO Box 183 Thomasville, NC 27361 or via PayPal to DCAnimalAlliance@gmail.com.
Davidson County officials say investigators have little information as they search for the dog's owner.
