Burglary suspect arrested after shooting at officers from riding lawnmower

MARLBORO COUNTY, S.C. -- (WMBF) -- A spokesperson for the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division says the agency is investigating after two officers with the Clio police department shot a man who was driving toward them on a lawnmower and fired shots at them in the 500 block of South Main Street/Hwy 9.
Two Clio police officers and a Marlboro County deputy were investigating another in a string of overnight breaking and entering calls when they encountered a man approaching them on a riding lawnmower.
The man fired at the officers, missing them but striking the deputy's car. The two Clio officers fired back at the man, striking him. He was transported to a hospital in Dillon where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries and was taken into police custody.
Camelin Demetrius Mcrae, 25, of Clio, has been charged with three counts of attempted murder and one count each of possession of a weapon during a violent crime and malicious injury to real property. Mcrae is also charged with a burglary that occurred at the Tiger Mart convenience store in Clio shortly before the shooting, according to authorities. He faces counts of second-degree burglary, malicious injury to real property, and petit larceny.
