PLACER COUNTY, Calif. (TCD) --
A 25-year-old was arrested June 3 when he allegedly broke into a Meadow Vista residence using a ceramic bunny and took a shower inside their home.
According to the Placer County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a burglary in progress bedroom watching television when they heard the water running. One of the residents went to investigate and found broken glass by their front door. They told their spouse, who then reportedly grabbed their shotgun and discovered the suspect, Carrola Tiago-Freitas, in the shower.
The Sheriff's Office said the homeowner held Tiago-Freitas at gunpoint until deputies arrive to arrest him for residential burglary.
Tiago-Freitas reportedly told deputies he used a ceramic bunny he found on the lawn to break a window on the front door in order to enter the home.
KOVR-TV identified the man holding the gun as Steve Baker. He told the station, "I got to the bottom of the stairs and as I start to turn around the stairs he was coming down the stairs wrapped in a towel about as surreal as it could get."
When Baker asked what Tiago-Freitas was doing taking a shower in his home, the suspect reportedly responded, "I had to."
Jail records for Placer County show he was being held on $60,000 bail.
