LAUREL, Neb. (TCD) -- The wife of a suspect in a quadruple homicide case has been arrested after allegedly killing one of the victims herself.
According to a news release from the Nebraska State Patrol, in the early morning hours of Aug. 4, Gene Twiford, 86, his wife Janet, 85, and their daughter Dana, 55, were killed in their home on the 500 block of Elm Street. The fourth victim, Michele Ebeling, 53, was reportedly slain in her home on the 200 block of Elm Street shortly after.
After the killings, both homes were allegedly set on fire.
Fire crew and law enforcement responded to the two homes and found the four deceased victims, the Nebraska State Patrol announced.
Jason Jones was initially charged with multiple counts of homicide, use of a weapon, and arson in connection to the case, KETV-TV reports. He reportedly faces a maximum penalty of death or life imprisonment.
Investigators allegedly found severe burns on Jason Jones’ legs, arms, and body. His wife reportedly had to "peel off what was left of Jason Jones’ clothing from his body when he arrived home."
Investigators searched phones owned by Jason Jones and his wife, Carrie Jones, and concluded that Carrie played a role prior to the slayings, the Nebraska State Patrol said. According to the criminal complaint obtained by KETV, Carrie stands accused of killing Gene "purposely and with deliberate and premeditated malice."
A witness reportedly saw one of the homes on fire, went over to help, and saw Carrie on the property.
Additionally, Carrie allegedly hid her husband and attempted to hide evidence. The Nebraska State Patrol said she was arrested and booked into the Antelope County Jail on Dec. 16 for first-degree homicide, tampering with physical evidence, and accessory to a felony.
The suspects are scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 23, 2023.
