SOLEDAD, Calif. (TCD) -- Rapper MoneySign Suede, 22, was reportedly stabbed to death in the shower of a California prison this week.
According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, on April 25 at approximately 9:55 p.m., corrections officers learned MoneySign Suede, whose real name was Jaime Brugada Valdez, did not return to his cell for a regular institutional count. Following a search, officials reportedly found the rapper unresponsive with "injuries consistent with a homicide."
Valdez was transported to an on-site medical facility, where he was pronounced dead at around 10 p.m. despite lifesaving measures. The Monterey County Coroner will perform an autopsy and determine Valdez’s cause of death.
Valdez’s attorney, Nicholas Rosenberg, told the Los Angeles Times, "They said it was a stabbing to the neck," but "they said they’re investigating."
Valdez’s attorney also said the rapper had allegedly been attacked in prison prior to the stabbing.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said the rapper was sentenced in December 2022 to serve two years and eight months for possessing/owning firearm by felon or addict as a second-striker and a one-year, four-month sentence for possession/owning a firearm with conviction of a violent felony out of Riverside County.
In 2021, the rapper reportedly signed with Atlantic Records, and he released his most recent album, "Parkside Baby," in September 2022.
